1. Florfenicol is structurally related to thiamphenicol; however, florfenicol contains fluorine at the 3’ carbon position.
2. The fluorine molecule substitution at this position also reduces the number of sites available for bacterial acetylation reactions to occur, possibly making the antibiotic more resistant to bacterial inactivation.
